Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem is a B movie that truly earns its B.

It may not be classic sci-fi like the original “Alien,” which it has in its DNA, but it’s a perfectly respectable next step in the series.

Provides enough cheap thrills and modest suspense to shake a few shekels from genre fans before really blasting off as homevid product.

Chopped down to 40 minutes, this could be a wickedly cool short; as is, it’s a passable slasher that’s still nowhere near the interspecies smackdown we geeks have long imagined.

Aliens vs. Predator -- Requiem simply exists, nodding to the continuity of the larger series and opening the door for, yes, another entry in the franchise. In Hollywood as in outer space, spawn begets spawn.

A dull actioner that looks like a bad video game.

The film's major draws are R-rated gore and some nice physical effects, proof that a man in a top-of-the-line monster suit can still be more effective than CGI.

Austin Chronicle Josh Rosenblatt
An orgy of mindless violence, a random collection of bloody bodies, alien misanthropy, and slobbering carnage designed to bore straight into the pleasure centers of 13-year-old boys and leave the rest of us wondering when the movies got so damn loud.

It's unclear whether any of the actors here have promising political careers since their only purposes are to serve as prey, adversaries and involuntary incubators to their guests.

Film Threat Stina Chyn
The camerawork is a smidge too shaky and the lighting/color design too dark for me to relish the Predator-on-Alien butt-kicking.

The problem with the "Alien vs. Predator" series is that the humans keep getting in the way.

The Onion (A.V. Club) Scott Tobias
A tasteless, witless, mindlessly perfunctory bloodbath that has the discourtesy to take itself seriously. Pitting aliens against predators may be the height of frivolity, but God forbid anyone have fun with it.

Kip gave it a2:
Too dark. Too Dark. TOO DARK! I generally cut films like this a lot of slack...but at least let us see what the heck is going on!!! I have the movie paused randomly as I write and the screen is 90% black with a about 8% dark blue, and 2% blue....I mean come on! I really wanted to like this, but geesh.

Arthur AA gave it a2:
Tries to be as good as first.. fails Trys to be scary.. fails Good acting.. fails Crap ending.. success!! This movie is terrible, I actually started to surf the internet while it was on because it was so boring, earns 2/10 from me because of the average effects.

James H. gave it a5:
Waaaayyyy too Dark I could barely see a thing - Horrible transfer avoid this dvd if you can. The Dawson creek kids Ruined the whole thing for me. good fight scenes between the aliens though.

Goethe M gave it a5:
Ignore the stat skewing votes, this movie is about average. Crippled by the premise of of aliens on earth carried forward from its much worse predecessor by Paul Anderson, this movie at least manages to get the R-rated gore right. It was further acquitted by a surprise ending that one hopes sets the franchise back on the rails. Featuring the Predator as our silent protagonist is both ambitious and flawed. More to be watched than listened, "Wolf" is a ruthless character true to his roots, his methods are interesting to follow and fans are spared the Predator-human buddy movie travesty of AvP1. Humans are relegated to being cliched bystanders, so the largely mediocre dialog and sketchy characterization remains secondary to the action. A small American town is the stage and its hapless inhabitants and protectors are mere statistics in the titular conflict between species, which is the central focus here. Rather than let this be a drawback, the brothers Strause manage to stay true to the limited scope of their creation and keep things simple. The monstrous antagonist brings something new to both worn franchises. With blended shades of the Predators who repeatedly fail to contain it, the Predalien runs rampant through sewers, streets and buildings, sparing neither pregnant women nor babies, while threatening to spawn overwhelming numbers of xenomorphs. AvP:R might appeal to Predator fans more than Alien aficionados. But while this movie provides no more and no less than popcorn entertainment, it still isn't the Requiem Fox should be aiming for.

Steve K gave it a4:
I agree with Larry P... too dark, too hard to see the Aliens and Predator. I'm not really sure why they decided to make half the movie just Aliens sneaking up on people and killing them gruesomely. How the hell did this become a bad slasher movie? I'd like to see Aliens vs. PredatorS <-- S for emphasis, would be nice to have them fight more than one. Make the emphasis on special effects and action, and I promise you more people will watch these movies. If you are going to have humans in these movies, make them bad-ass marines like in James Cameron's Aliens. I had terribly low expectations for this movie so it was marginally entertaining, but I'm just befuddled at how they keep screwing this up. MAKE THEM FIGHT, MAKE THEM FIGHT, MAKE THEM FIGHT. That's all we want. Screw the humans.

Kent P gave it a1:
Just watched this movie on DVD. Seriously, what is UP with filming movies in the DARK these days ?!!! This whole movie was basically action that you had to squint to "try" to see, because the scenes were SO DARK that you could barely make out what was what. Did they blow their CGI budget and have to conserve on light bulbs ? Terrible.

Douglas H gave it a4:
Sucked less than the first one.
