Hollywood Reporter Barry Garron
Shores has created a funny, loopy, off-kilter comedy that, truth be told, probably would play just as well on other cable channels, including Comedy Central and TV Land.

Del Shores brings his movie and stage show about crazy Texan Women and slightly-less-crazy gay men to TV with a cavalcade of camp icons and brilliant, canon-ready Beth Grant. [25 Jul 2008, p.64]

Los Angeles Times Robert Lloyd
From where I sit, it is something of a mixed bag, but it works more than it doesn't, and an impressive, semi-big-name cast helps keep it upright and lends the project an air of prestige--especially in the context of its modest little network.

It's like watching a drag show--you know, when you're supposed to laugh because we're conditioned to laugh on cue. But in reality, it's forced, er, gaiety.

Sordid Lives: The Series has a decidedly amateurish tone, with shoddy production values and acting that shows some seams. But the tone works in the show's favor.

Bart W gave it a5:
The acting is uneven and erratic. (Particularly Ty). Episodes are too short and choppy (need to be a full hour). But there ARE some great laughs. It's a bit campy and the emotional outburts are definitely over the top, making it something of a charicature. That makes it hard to make Ty's "coming out" as seriously as it's played. It's hard to go from campy to empathetic in 10 seconds.

Bruce P. gave it a10:
Love it! Fantastic show in every aspect!!!

Jose P. gave it a10:
Hysterically funny, white-trash characters and saucy scripts that make me howl!

Terry B. gave it a10:
This is a VERY funny show! It not only exploits all of the "virtuous" things in every small town U.S.A., but it points out that everyone - rich or poor - has issues with which they struggle every day. The writing is sensational, the tongue-in-cheek dark comedy is very biting, and there are many laughs to be had. GREAT SERIES! I hope they do another season after the initial series!

Carl W. gave it a4:
Too short and too many commercials from logo.

Lane T. gave it a10:
This show is the best comedy on TV!!!
