Until the movie goes awry in the final scenes, it's a good show.

Variety Brian Lowry
Hallmark Hall of Fame's 228th production is predictable, sappy, somewhat maudlin, and by the time it's over, there won't be a dry eye in the house.

New York Daily News David Hinckley
If there's a four-handkerchief element anywhere that this movie has missed, it's not apparent to the naked eye.

The biggest tragedy here is that no one told Silverstone that scrunching up her face like she just bit into a rotten apple is not the same as looking sad. [24 Nov 2006, p.103]

Hollywood Reporter Barry Garron
"Candles" is more like a beautiful Norman Rockwell painting than a riveting story of rivalry and compassion.

It lacks the dignity and restraint that can inspire more genuine tears from viewers.

Henry Y gave it a9:
Veeeerrrry sappy but...hey, it's a Hallmark movie, so that's kinda expected. The all grown up but still very lovely Alicia Silverstone plays a free spirited woman returning to a town she had left behind so many years ago. She brings with her a young son and a terrible "secret". I knew about halfway where the movie was heading, but I still felt choked up at the ending. Chalk it up to Alicia's surprisingly effective performance. Her character embodied such a warmth and glow about her, that it managed to lighten up such a dull town.

Amber J gave it a10:
Really good movie it was intresting and funny easy to follow wasn't confuesing at all! I Love It!!

beth d gave it a7:
The acting was believable. The story, a little cliche. I took off a point because they only showed Hallmark commercials in between, so I never got a chance to recover from crying from the last scene. Not a great movie, but sweet and touching.

Renee V gave it a10:
Great show!

Katrina B gave it a10:
This movie was WONDERFUL.. I can't wait for it to come out on video, so that I can buy it! I also wish that it could be shown more than once!

Sarah S gave it a9:
This was a very heartwarming and family friendly show.

Kimm S gave it a9:
I don't know why there is so much negativity about this movie? Who cares about the way her face looks. The plot of the movie was what counted, she was a good person, and everyone loved her. She had a great son, and great friends that shared the end of her life with her. Whats wrong with that? HAGN Kimm
