All Music Guide
They're old-fashioned, but in the best sense: they're in it for the long haul, which the superb Warpaint proves beyond a shadow of a doubt.

90
Hot Press
Never in 24 years have The Black Crowes either changed their tune or sounded contrived, and they’re getting better all the time in their dependably unfashionable way.

80
Billboard
Warpaint mines the same Allmans-to-Zappa synthesis of influences that's been the Crowes' stock in trade but finds the group fortified by sharp songwriting and lace-tight, live-sounding performances.

Paste Magazine
A much-matured (now fortysomething father) Chris finds peace and clarity through some of his finest, most poetic storytelling to date.

The Onion (A.V. Club)
While it doesn't reach the gold standard of the Black Crowes' first three albums, Warpaint more than justifies the band's continued existence nearly 20 years after it emerged as an unapologetic anachronism specializing in British blues and Southern-fried blue-eyed soul.

Rolling Stone
Warpaint starts off strong--the first third of the album reveals some of the best range and craft of the band's career--but songs like 'We Who See the Deep' are just too unfocused to be memorable.

Austin Chronicle
Though no song stands out as particularly remarkable, Warpaint drips steady consistency.

Observer Music Monthly
It's not a huge departure for the Southern songbirds but proves them to be magisterial practitioners of the dark blues-rock arts.

Mojo
It's not a great album but it is good, bar a slapdash feel to some songs and too much squealing, dated guitar. [Apr 2008, p.100]

Uncut
Warpaint does, however, fall somewhat short of the triumphant comeback The Black Crowes set their 10-gallons at.

Alejandro C. gave it a7:
Long time Crowes fan, this album is fantastic on 1st listens but fades with time I feel I am more interested in older material, still.

Nick D. gave it a10:
It's good to have them back. The irony is that they sound the same as always, but because they are so completely different than any music being made right now their sound is refreshing.

Jack S. gave it a10:
The Crowes reach deep into themselves and American (and Amorican) tradition to make an original album of great rock and roll.

David S. gave it a7:
A good album.

James R. gave it a10:
Best cd of 2008! so far Rock ,Blues Counrty all rolled into 1, just what I've been waiting for from the Crowes!

David B. gave it a9:
This release finds the Crowes soul searching and inviting us to. come with them. Though this release doesn't slam you over the head as some of their past albums, you cant help but eagerly join them in their journey while singing along.

Dan A. gave it a9:
Thick and bluesy. Sounded like Southren Musical Harmony part two. The Crowes are back!
