Years ago, a legacy was born that ruled the skies. As time passed and memory grew dim, distant times progressed from History into Legend. Now, the era of human prosperity has come to a grinding halt, with all but a few pockets of civilization destroyed by years of devastating battles. The population clings precariously to the brink of extinction, scattered across the desolate land, living in the darkest age in history. A new Empire rules with an iron grip, and a band of rebels begins a revolt in an attempt to become masters of their destiny once again. As the world is engulfed in the flames of war, an unlikely and unwilling Hero must become mankind's only hope. [Sega]

With an excellent story, complex yet intuitive gameplay, and a dragon-size helping of extra features, the game is a joy to play. The only downside is that it eventually ends.

The graphics are beautifully rendered, offering enough scenery to nearly distract from the utter chaos that makes up much of the game and the sound supports Dolby 5.1 which means a surround sound that actually helps you locate enemies in gameplay.

While some might say the game is short, you are going to want to play it over and over and over. Add to that the slew of unlockables in this game, and you have one amazing title that will keep you busy for a long time.

What makes all of the killing and such so exciting is the detail put into their deaths. Once you blow up an enemy you are treated with tons of particles flying around and colors that will make more than a few eyebrows rise.

May very well be the most gorgeous console game ever made. The game maintains the classic gameplay basis of the original, while introducing enough new aspects, such as dragon morphing, to keep the series fresh.

I shudder to think of what it looks like on HDTV... The gorgeous presentation here will likely win all the critical accolades, but there is a tricky genius to Orta’s gameplay as well.

Those susceptible to motion sickness be warned: Smilebit were able to devote very convincing flight physics to the camera and movements, some of the best ever captured in a videogame cartridge or disc.

Rather than confusing the player with endless pages of stats or making the controls overly complicated (something Smilebit did with "GunValkyrie"), the company has achieved just the right balance of gameplay, visuals, atmosphere and story line.

Michael W. gave it a9:
Everyone who complains about not being able to move around needs to shut up. It's an ON-RAILS SHOOTER. That's how ALL of them are. Complaining about a lack of free movement in this genre of game is like complaining about the lack of lyrics in Rhapsody in Blue. Sure, some people are trashing Brittany for having an opinion, but her opinion is uninformed and doesn't understand the whole point of the game. If you want to be able to move like Unreal Championship 2, then go play that game instead.

Heath gave it a4:
There is essentially no freedom of movement in this game. It's nothing but pretty graphics and alot of button smashing. I was bored with it in the first 20 minutes.

Allen gave it a 3:
This game sucked. Trying to dodge something, and then being stopped a INVISIBLE WALL, getting hit, and dying. WTF? If this is what railshooters are about, they suck. This is annoying, especially when fighting the last boss. I don't know y people are trashing Brittany for having a brain and an opinion. Guys, sucks me.

[Anonymous] gave it a 10:
What should one think of when they hear Panzer Dragoon Orta? 1) That is a wierd name. 2) That game is great!!! Well, both. Anyway, this game is perfect. It has some of the best graphics I have ever seen. They have quality similar to Metroid Prime. And the controls are perfect. Locking on to multiple enemies never gets boring. I recommend this game to everyone who owns an Xbox (It only costs $20 now).

White Warrior gave it a 10:
Intriging storyline, awesome controll, great graphics, finely detailed cinematics, and a ton of secrets to unlock. DEFINETLY a must for any Xbox owner......remember A MUST!!!

Uter gave it a 9:
I don't care for dragons, or dragoons, but this is a great game. It's a shooter that's constantly intense and challenging. Plus the unlockable bonuses are some of the best ever, in any game.

Kaysee Panzer gave it a 10:
This IS the ULTIMATE game!! Whoever rates this game lower than a 9 needs either mental help, or needs to pput themselves out of their misary, like Saria said. Oh, and for those who don't have the game...GO OUT AND GET IT!! This game kicks butt!! I know, I have a Sega Dreamcast, so, I have played Sonic Adventure One and Two. WHOEVER DOES NOT HAVE THIS GAME, I ADVISE TO GO OUT AND GET IT.
