Official Nintendo Magazine UK
It's better than "Animal Crossing" and "Harvest Moon" in almost every way, whle also being a completely different kind of game...Barring a few options we'd have liked to see, it's a perfect second life experience. [Oct 2007, p.78]

We can't figure out how on earth we've spent so much time in the game, or what we've actually accomplished, but doing next to nothing has never been so much fun. [Nov 2007, p.38]

MySims, with its focus on finding Essence, building furniture (and friendships) and decorating homes ends up feeling more like Animal Crossing than a true Sims game. With that said, MySims is an incredibly charming game that will please more than a few fans looking for lighthearted fare.

At once accessible and complex, kid-friendly and adult-pleasing, and full of personality, MySims is an excellent and original idea that's well-suited to the console, even if it won't be an essential purchase for everybody.

The controls highlight just how diverse and easy to play the Wii can be when it comes to gaming and the little tykes will love decorating their houses with furniture they've crafted with relative ease.

It’s not exactly The Sims, being toned down to appeal to a much younger audience. In fact, it’s hard to believe anybody except females under the age of 14 will find the MySims’ pastel-colored universe and sugarcoated characters a charming gaming adventure.

Overall, My Sims is a great start to what could be a fantastic series. If they'd flesh the game out a bit, EA would have a game that would easily rival Animal Crossing, offering players the chance to fully realize their town from the ground up instead of simply trading shirts with stupid animals that will just as soon steal from you.

MySims is not a great game, but it does enough right to earn a good rating. I would say this is the type of game that if you're bored one weekend looking for a game for your Wii, then MySims is a game that can take up a lot of your time and make for an enjoyable experience.

There’s plenty to do here and a lot of reward for doing it, which means that MySims is far more than a kids’ game – even if it is exactly the sort of release that children will enjoy. [Nov 2007, p.122]

When compared to the Sims titles we're used to, MySims contains only a fraction of what made the franchise great. Then again, the Sims formula obviously hasn't been doing so hot on consoles... Maybe more emphasis on creating items and less emphasis on social micromanagement is just what the casual console gamers needed to join the multitude of Simians.

Really, the biggest enemy of the MySims is its pacing; the open-ended nature of the game allows for hours and hours of busy work, but at the cost of any real excitement.

Beyond building, however, the game doesn’t have much to keep your interest. There are enough tasks to keep you amused for some time, but if you find this becoming boring, there’s nothing else in the game to keep you playing.

Something completely new in The Sims series and on the Wii. This is not a game for players looking for complex social interactions; it seems more of a tribute to Lego fans who want to exercise their creativity.

My final analysis is this: if you love creating things and have lots of patience, MySims is worth a look, but if you're hoping for a cute virtual neighborhood to inhabit, "Animal Crossing: Wild World" is a better place to settle. [Nov 2007, p.100]

The problem is that nearly all of the objectives revolve around the same two tasks: the collection of essences and the construction of houses, buildings and items. All of the Sim management and social interaction elements of the previous games – well, you're not going to find much of that in the streamlined Wii affair.

This game has no shortage of creative options, as players create their own dream town from scratch with imaginative building designs and all kinds of oddball characters. However, its easygoing nature leaves a bit to be desired as far as dangers and comical situations go.

MySims may be a simple game, but it's remarkably easy to approach and watching your town go from a ghost town to a location other Sims want to visit is very satisfying. It's just a bit of a shame the franchise has been dumbed down in the transition to the Wii.

Maxi Consolas (Portugal)
A light approach to The Sims, but where the only relation possible is friendship and the interactions between characters are limited. Very political correct and often repetitive. [Nov 2007]

Pelit (Finland)
A life simulation that relates more to Animal Crossing and Harvest Moon series than to other Sims. A good basis which is sadly spoilt by too little variety in possible activities while making your town grow and prosper. You mostly get to built new houses and furniture on demand which becomes boring in a few days time. You would not expect such horridly long and frequent loading times and occasional jerkiness in gameplay either. [Nov 2007]

MySims sits uncomfortably between its heritage and its aspirations. It's not as much fun as The Sims, and it's not as much fun as "Animal Crossing." As the only game of its kind on Wii, it's the best by default -- but that still doesn't mean it's particularly great.

The biggest omission from MySims is undoubtedly any kind of online functionality. It’s odd that players can’t visit other towns and share items. As a result, the MySims universe is a lonely place, and will only serve to entertain the player and not anyone else.

If you are a player new to The Sims franchise who enjoys cute things and the act of building, MySims could be well worth your cash. Animal Crossing has been known to capture the attention of players for months on end - those who can look past the load times might find the same value in MySims. If you are not the person described above, consider a rental.

John gave it a2:
Wow, this game is soooo overated! Ok, it was fun for the first couple hours or so. After that, the game gets very repetitive and boring. You do the same thing over and over again. Might be a fun game for young kids but definitely not as fun for people in their 20s. My biggest problem with this game is the loading screens...so many of them and they take sooo long. I was hoping there would be some mini-games like they did for the DS but nope, there were none.

Sam P. gave it a7:
A fun game, but definitely for children. Since they've chopped off a lotof ideas that were in the original Sims games (such as making your friends) you're restricted. Still, better than the other Sims console games by a mile.

Jake gave it a6:
Cute and engaging, but... I am afraid it is going to ruin my Wii. I've never heard the disc drive grind so much on any system. None of my other games do this. Also, you spend 50% of your time watching loading screens. Go in a house, load, go outside, load, talk to someone, load, load, load. Then, at certain times the framerate stutters and skips (whilst grinding the drive continues). There isn't that much stuff on the screen. Other more complex games don't do this. Overall not worth $50. Worth a try but I'd wait until it comes down to $20.

Sarah P. gave it a7:
Started off well as it kept your interest. The game had alot of things to do, such as, collect essences, meet new people, collect new tools from earning star ratings for your town and to build items for your home. SO far the game was very good. However, when you got to the last level [Level 5] it went downhill from then on. When you complete the star levels, you don't get anything, all that you get is "Uber Sims" coming to your town because it is " a 5 star town". If you gave many items coloured in their interest to them they would become your best friend. They then woulkd give you a their outfit. I thought this was very disappointing and i felt like they either ran out of ideas or got lazy. This was probably the worse ending to a Sims fame ever they couldve thought of. Also another thing that i thought couldve been made for the game was that they couldve made a train or something so it would have been made easy going to and from the desert, forest and town. They had the railway, the station and part of the train's route mapped out in the game. They must've decided to be lazy and not bother to do this but instead, give crappie "uber" sims for the ending reward, which you've worked for. For these reasons it lost marks.

Jake H. gave it a9:
MySims is one of the best games I have ever played. I liked Animal Crossing:Wild World and how you decorated and designed stuff, and I liked The Sims how you build your very on city. MySims is a combo of both and unlike animal crossing, you don't need to play everyday to make sure you can maintain your town. The only negative things are the long loading times and fact that you are always doing something and you don't have time to relax and enjoy the town unless you slack off alot.

Maik Z. gave it a10:
This is a game that gets variable rates. It's just a personal experience. One person brings it back after playing an hour or less, while someone else just keeps designing houses and stuff for the sweet people in town! It is a great base for an even better sequel. I hope that they give it somewhat more depth and polishing then it will be even better! I'm going back to design a yakuzi.

Shaun P. gave it a9:
This is not a typical SIMS game, to compare it is missing the point. This is a new franchise and as such is immensly fun. The building and creation aspect is pretty much the main part of the game and they are definitely fun. To complain that it's all about building, is missing the point entirely. That said it has a few rough edges, but they're forgivable given how much fun you'll be having. I guess if you're not a creative person you'll get bored easily, so stay away. But if you love LEGO why are you still waiting?
