Guitar Hero: Aerosmith is the first game built around the legendary music of "America's Greatest Rock ‘N Roll Band": Steven Tyler, Joe Perry, Brad Whitford, Tom Hamilton and Joey Kramer. This latest Guitar Hero installment puts players in the shoes of Perry (guitar), Whitford (guitar) and Hamilton (bass), as they rock out alongside frontman Tyler and drummer Kramer. Gamers experience Aerosmith’s Grammy winning career, from their first gig to becoming rock royalty, in a way that no other entertainment vehicle offers. As fans progress through their careers in the game, they can rock out to scores of Aerosmith’s greatest hits, as well as songs from celebrated artists that the band has either performed with or has been inspired by in some way. Venues from historical moments during the band's illustrious career offer the experience of "sweet emotion" and further capture the essence of the band's rise to fame. [Activision]

But ultimately how much you personally enjoy Guitar Hero: Aerosmith depends on how much you like the band. If you love Aerosmith, Guitar Hero: Aerosmith is easily the best Guitar Hero yet.

It's a good extension of the series and a nice way to introduce the older Aerosmith fan base.

A title for hardcore Aerosmith fans and gamers that must have their next Guitar Hero fix. If you’re a casual Guitar Hero gamer you might be hard pressed to justify getting the game since the core Guitar Hero experience hasn’t changed.

Neversoft and RedOctane played it safe by changing little to nothing in the Guitar Hero franchise with Guitar Hero: Aerosmith.

Those new to the Guitar Hero experience may want to look to other versions of the game for a deeper and longer lasting experience.

Guitar Hero: Aerosmith borders on the brink of being an unnecessary edition to the franchise. Yes, there are enhancements that move the series forward, especially in regards to difficulty balance, but the smaller track list, repetitive song styles and resemblance to Legends of Rock leave something to be desired.

As a game it's fun enough; it retains all of the features from the Wii version of Guitar Hero III, giving you plenty of reason to buy if you're an Aerosmith fan. [Sept 2008, p.86]

Official Nintendo Magazine UK
A cash-in that should have been much cheaper, especially when "World Tour" is just over the horizon. [Aug 2008, p.84]

Not really that innovative. [Oct 2008, p.62]

It's just sort of a bummer not to see anything new brought to the table other than a digital Steven Tyler (which actually looks less freakish than the real Steven Tyler).

Vultan Vultan gave it an8:
Similar game to Guitar Hero III, different music. Still brilliant, especially online.

Jimmus Maximus gave it a5:
Easily the most dull of the Guitar Hero series. Unless you're a die-hard Aerosmith fan, you will not relish wading through a bunch of songs you have never heard, and hope you never hear again. Admittedly, there are some good "classic" Aerosmith songs. Looks great, plays exactly as its predecessors, leaves me wholly unfufilled. I'm taking it back and waiting for Guitar Hero 4.

Bob S. gave it a0:
Basing a game around Aerosmith is disappointing at best. Maybe they should try a game based on music within the last 10 years.
