It's definitely a game for RPG fanatics who go in more for the challenge than the plotline, and no doubt casual players who pick it up for the oh-so-cute cover art will be rather surprised by how brutally it savages their dignity (although a generous learning curve should help ease them into their suffering). Still, it's a definite success, taken on its own terms.

By sacrificing and tweaking a number of the more niche aspects of the roguelike genre -- but not so many as to dilute the experience irrevocably -- Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo's Dungeon delivers an experience that is true enough to its roots to appeal to longtime fans, but also fresh and inviting enough to please newcomers.

Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo´s Dungeon is a correct spin-off of the Final Fantasy series. The game is designed for the beginner players with few experience in these kind of games, but is focused for the followers of the franchise too. The dungeon system is a little repetitive but the job classes and the minigames help to offer a great mix of gameplay.

A great introduction to Mystery Dungeon for newcomers, a competent rent for others. [Jan 2009, p.80]

Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo's Dungeon is a game with a decent concept what eventually shows up in the storyline and gameplay. However, the downside of this all is the poorly translation and the somewhat disappointing graphics. In al fairness a pretty decent game, but never rises above the average spin-off game.

Chocobo's Dungeon does what it does best in one area only, the Mystery Dungeon area, and people unfamiliar to the formula will more than likely struggle to get into things. Having said that, it's the only game of its kind on Wii right now and by giving it a lot of time, Mystery Dungeon fans will get a lot out of it - given they don't mind the cruddy presentation.
