The brutal offroad racing festival is back, with players this time attempting to tackle the diversity and unpredictability of a remote Pacific island environment. MotorStorm: Pacific Rift revisits the intense racing action introduced in last year's MotorStorm, this time allowing players to navigate a radically different tropical environment chock full of lush jungle, towering peaks, and crystal-clear water. Players experience a greater selection of tracks and vehicles to choose, as well as extensive multiplayer options including four player split screen and races with up to 20 players online. Additionally players can utilize a new photo mode to save images within the game and for the first time be able to take music from their PS3's HDD to create a customized soundtrack. [Sony]

MotorStorm: Pacific Rift is everything I would have hoped for in a MotorStorm sequel. Sure, it still has some of those quirks found in the original that players may love or hate, but Evolution Studios has put together a well-rounded racer that improves greatly on the original in every way.

MotorStorm: Pacific Rift has been a long time coming - and has had other off-road contenders like Pure nipping at its heels - but the old magic that made the first one a ripper is back, with more vehicles, loads more tracks and a better implemented online feature set. Unless you hate off-road car games with a venomous passion this is pretty much a must-have.

Motorstorm 2 gives us the one feature that the original failed to deliver. The game is fun. No more repeated crashes into the side of a cliff because all of the terrain looks identical and you have no idea which way is forward anymore. No more frustratingly difficult AI that is always directly behind you no matter how well you’ve been driving.

Undoubtedly Pacific Rift is much better than the first Motorstorm. Sony and Evolution Studios have been working hard to solve every complaint from the users about the first part. There are a ton of events, the difficulty has been polished and the value of the program is severely increased. Very recommendable for the fans of the wildest speed games.

Where it excels, and where it innovates, all is rosy, and occasionally exceptional - but where it falls down it can chafe, and it still isn't as balanced and polished as it might be. That being said, Evolution do more than enough to make this a good purchase for fans of the genre.

We're still not completely sold on what we believe is an overly harsh handling model that frequently restricts the amount of fun the average gamer can have, but it's not an insurmountable problem. Once you're in the groove you'll find some incredible tracks to scream around at high speed and the online play should provide plenty of longevity.

MotorStorm: Pacific Rift features everything that made the original successful: wild, arcade races with plenty of vehicles to choose. This time, besides, it's done with so much detail that the experience feels fresh and new. 16 different tracks, doubling the original, and with very clever course designs counting on which kind of driver are you. And, of course, a better multiplayer, both online and offline. Definitely a very good refinement.

A very worthy sequel. It doesn't change any of the fundamental aspects of the original's gameplay; it just builds on them and gives you a helluva lot more bang for your buck. With the first Motorstorm we were amazed by the stunning graphics, spectacular crashes and the aggressive AI. With Pacific Rift we are treated to some great new environments and courses but the developer Evolution Studios hasn't really found their direction for this sequel. Four player co-op is great but the news here aren't enough to redeem uneven graphics, unpredictable crashes and lack of direction.

Despite fulfilling all the promises they made to fans of the first game - split screen action, more vehicles on screen and larger levels - Evolution Studios haven't really dared to do too many new things. The major issue here is one of expectations; Pacific Rift falls well short of them. Motorstorm was a stellar introduction to the PS3 and the sequel feels like a watered-down, consumer-friendly game that doesn’t add up to the sum of its parts. If you’re looking for an arcade racer there’s more on the market than back in March 2007, and many of these have made advances while Pacific Rift is stuck in Motorstorm’s beautifully realised mud.

D C. gave it an8:
George M said it perfectly "when you cross the finish line, you really FEEL like you accomplished something," Every second of every lap is as intense as it gets in racing games and you wont feel anything better than breathing a sigh of relief when you cross that finish line after qualifying. Quality. Also, just skip Frank B's comment, no matter what console you own just appreciate a good game when you see one. Owning all consoles i really don't get this fanboy bullshit!

Mark C gave it a9:
Frank B obviously doesn't own a PS3 and neither do his friends (if he has any). This game is a great follow up to the first game. The gameplay has improved, but the only problem is it doesn't add many more features from the last game apart from the monster trucks and considerable amount of tracks added. I would highly recommend this game to anyone and I hope that they will improve it further with items you can purchase from PSN.

scott v. gave it a9:
This is the best off road racing game available, if you liked the first motorstorm then you are sure to like Pacific drift, it plays much like the original but with several multi-player improvements, new vehicles, excellent graphics and an amazing selection of new tracks. The beach and jungle tracks are really cool and offer multiple paths to the finish. I'm a big fan of road racing games but nothing is funner than going online and flying off of a cliff in a racing truck and then landing on some poor sap riding a motorcycle, Ouch! Ignore "Frank B." and his review below, he has never played this game nor owned 1 PS3 (let alone 5), he also gave a zero score to "Little Big Planet" saying that it's a poor rpg thats too difficult to level up, It is not an rpg and you don't level up either so its clear he is just a Sony hater and not a player. I raced online my first night with 11 other people and the racing was smooth, flawless, and total mayhem, just the way I like it!

Josh K gave it a10:
In my opinion this is a very top notch racing game and it has amazing eye poping jaw droping gaphics. Please thoose of you reading the user review please dont listen to stupid Xbox fanboys who have nothing better to do but to rate down a awesome game that they are unable to play on their system im just upset that people like to say they are on their insert # here PS3 because PS3 has the lowest console failure rate of all systems its a fact that most people who own a xbox and play it a lot will xperience at least one Red Ring of Death which causes the console to fail. But back on topic This is a awesome exclusive game for the PS3.

George M gave it an8:
Frank B IS a liar (and he stinks of fanboyism)...there, just had to throw that out. Being a fan of the first Motorstorm, i gotta admit that the excitement was building for the sequel...and after playing the demo, i'm sold this is a purchase for me. The first Motorstorm was a highly under-rated racer, but initial impressions aside revealed a rather deep, exciting game....kinda like the BURNOUT series, just off-road. I think Motorstorm turned some people off because of its difficulty, at first glance this looks like your standard arcadey racer....and it is, but the physcis of your vehicle on the terrain are spot-on. EVERY bump and imperfection on the track affects your handling and even the slightest of mis-calculations can send you flying into the air in a ball of fire.....some scoffed at this sense of realism and difficulty, i found it to be quite challenging and in this game....when you cross the finish line, you really FEEL like you accomplished something, because of all the wrecks and battling with aggressive A.I. opponents you must deal with, just makes the WIN all the more awesome. the demo only covered one track, but it was a beauty....very green, lush, and lively.....a nice change from the desert locales of the first. graphically, I'd say its a slight upgrade to a already great looking game....so it gets no major points for that, but it loses none either....excellent looking game. sound is as good as always, sound effects are crisp and the sound of grinding exploding metal are ever-present. gameplay, spot-on....just like its predecessor, which I'm sure some won't dig just like they didn't dig it in the first one.....hopefully there is a "rookie" or "amateur" difficulty setting....to appease those who are still learning to walk. overall, great game....and i cant wait to try the FULL product.

Frank B. gave it a1:
Worst game ever, the Wii has racing game with better graphics. The game stutters all over the place as the PS3 can't run game. I am on my 5th PS3, as PS3's break down all the time. All my friends had to ship back all of their PS3's because they broke.
