MPAA RATING: PG-13 for rude and irreverent content, and for language and brief drug material

Starring Kelsey Grammer, Kevin Farley, Trace Adkins, Jon Voight, Leslie Nielsen, and Dennis Hopper

The American spirit is celebrated in the comedy An American Carol. In An American Carol a cynical, Anti-American “Hollywood” filmmaker sets out on a crusade to abolish the 4th of July holiday. He is visited by 3 ghosts who take him on a hilarious journey in an attempt to show him the true meaning of America. (Vivendi Entertainment)

Boston Globe Ty Burr
Ultimately, the problem with An American Carol is the problem with far too much political discourse in this country, left or right: It highlights the worst excesses of the opposition for the sole purpose of discrediting the vast middle.

Entertainment Weekly Lisa Schwarzbaum
A loony attack on wacko liberalism and a ding-dong defense of wacko conservatism.

Los Angeles Times Gary Goldstein
It's a gag-strewn, hit-and-miss affair that's not without its chuckles.

The Hollywood Reporter Frank Scheck
The sole laughs are scored by Robert Davi, amusingly playing it straight as a Muslim terrorist who wants to hire Malone to make a suicide bomber recruitment film.

The New York Times Nathan Lee
Cheap shots and mean spirits abound, as do celebrity cameos (James Woods, Jon Voight, Dennis Hopper, Kelsey Grammer). But it's the laziness of the writing that most offends.

Conservatives score a few political points but aren't very funny in An American Carol, a cheesy spitball directed at the very large target of a Michael Moore-like filmmaker.

About as not-funny as a comedy can get.

Astonishingly inept alleged satire.

New York Post Lou Lumenick
Even if it weren't three years too late to parody Moore (ineptly played by Kevin Farley), Moore's ridiculous tribute to Cuban health care in "Sicko" is far funnier than anything in this desperately laughless farce from David Zucker ("Scary Movie 3").

Bad enough to earn a rare spot on my hallowed list of ''The Worst Movies I've Ever Seen,'' An American Carol is testament that the country's culture wars are raging just as strongly within Hollywood as anywhere else.

Michael Moore has nothing to fear from David Zucker.

Great satire never fits neatly within an ideological box. Attention, the ghosts of H.L. Mencken, Stanley Kubrick, and Jonathan Swift: David Zucker could use a visit.

Karen S. gave it a10:
This film portrayed a very comedic parody of not only Michael Moore, but of terrorists as well. It was a feel-good, patriotic movie for those of us who still believe in America!

Dave gave it a0:
I didn't see this movie, the preview was all I needed to see. Oh, and Harry S, Michael Moore is NOT was is wrong with America, it is the neocon administration who have been running this country for the past 8 years that is worng with America!!! January 20th can't come soon enough for me, GO Obama!!!!

b c gave it a7:
I think that Zucker's films have been OK, and this one's again OK. I find the reaction of those with liberal leanings and empty heads to be entertaining though. Hey, if you can't take a joke, it must have hit too close to home. Take that weenies.

gave it a0:
I would like to respond to the person who admitted they hadn't seen the movie yet, but decided that anyone who gave the movie a bad rating had not seen the movie either. You must tell me how you came to this conclusion. However, I did see the movie and can report that even in one of the reddest of the red states, the movie audiennce was so stunned there was only a few half-hearted snickers. I think that is the best indication of how good a this "comedy" was.

gave it a0:
is disappointed that even a few people could possible be so stupid to like this movie

Jarrod B. gave it a10:
This movie is funny because it is true. It is a bit much at times, but overall very funny. The funniest part is that people could actually be offended by this movie.

Chalotte G. gave it a0:
A waste of money....not even remotely funny. Would've liked to seen a counterpoint to Michael Moore's humor.
